Meet the
Landlady and Landlord
Jillie
Dean and Hadrian Stross welcome you to their typical English pub situated on the
edge of Horsell Common, made famous by H.G. Wells in his book 'War of the
Worlds', which has recently been made into a blockbuster film.
Over 150 years old, that's The Plough not Jillie and Hadrian,
the pub exudes charm and country ambiance.
The Plough is a typical village pub,
supported by many locals and those not so local. Horsell Common and the
surrounding area is a favourite with Ramblers, who use The Plough as their
watering hole, before making their weary way to conclude their exploration of
the common, the sandpits 1/2 mile away and the mysteries of The War of The Worlds (not all of them are looking
for Martians after that half)!
Horse
riders are welcome and can often been seen with their horses tethered to the
railings outside.
We
also support other riders, (this is a biker friendly pub), in particular the
Thames Valley Harley Davison Motorcycle Club.
Children
are welcome when accompanied by a suitable adult. The garden is equipped for
children and we serve a
children's menu. Accompanying adults are
respectively reminded that children must be off the premises by 8.00 pm.
Dogs are welcome, as are horses which
can often be seen tethered up outside, while their riders have a quick half and
the horses munch into a hay bale also provided by Hadrian & Jillie.
In addition to having a large
car park at the front of the pub, complete with tables etc. for those barmy
summer days, we also have a compact but very pleasant
beer garden
complete with a small children's play area, which is very popular and ideal for
those warm spring days or hot summer days when we get them.
